Our Role: Architectural, Engineering, Permitting, Interior and Exterior Design.
This project transformed an existing single-story residence into a substantially larger two-story home. Located on a quiet street in Monrovia with views toward the San Gabriel Mountains, the original 1,755-square-foot house was removed and rebuilt with the finished living area being approximately 3,554 square feet.
The design language is contemporary with traditional Southern California influences. Smooth oatmeal-colored stucco (La Habra) forms the primary exterior, punctuated by cut coarse stone accents in an oyster finish from the Eldorado Stone Collection. These stone elements frame the new front porch, the arched entry, and select upper and lower elevations, creating strong visual anchors against the lighter wall planes. All windows and exterior doors are black-finished casement and French units with grids (Pella Lifestyle Wood Series), providing crisp contrast and improved performance. The roof was completely re-framed and finished with lightweight concrete tile in a camouflage color (Westlake Saxony 600 Split Shake), selected both for its appearance and reduced structural load.
Key exterior moves include a new front porch with stairs and stone detailing, a 20-by-20-foot rear concrete patio, new patio doors that open the living spaces to the backyard, and a new fence and gate on the south side. The entry sequence is defined by a stone-clad arched opening with black double doors, lantern-style exterior lighting, and a clean, balanced elevation that reads clearly from the street.
The result is a home that feels both substantial and refined—larger in square footage and livability, with stronger indoor-outdoor connections, updated systems, and a cohesive material palette of stucco, stone, and black metal.
